   8-Step Program   

 

1: Early Season

  • January & February
  • Pre-emergent spray for control of crabgrass and other grassy weeds
  • Spray for broadleaf weeds as needed

2: Spring

  • March & April
  • Additional pre-emergent for extended grassy weed control
  • Spray for broadleaf weeds as needed

3: Late Spring

  • April & May
  • Fertilization for green up and root development
  • Spray for early weeds such as poa annua and fireweed

4: Early Summer

  • June & July
  • Fertilization to maintain green and healthy turf
  • Weed control for weeds such as crabgrass and nutgrass as needed

5: Summer

  • July & August
  • Fertilization to extend color through summer
  • Weed control for weeds such as crabgrass and nutgrass as needed

6: Fall

  • August, September, & October
  • Pre-emergent for control of winter weeds such as poa annua

7: Winter

  • October & November
  • Pre-emergent for control of winter weeds such as onions, oxalis and spurge
  • Broadleaf weed control as needed

8: Lime

  • November & December
  • Lime applied to raise soil pH, so next year’s fertilization is more effective
  • Broadleaf weed control is needed

  • January & February
  • Dormant oil spray for over-wintering insects, eggs, & fungal spores

2: Spring

  • March & April
  • Pre-emergent spray to help control weeds in beds

3: Late Spring

  • April & May
  • Disease/insect control as needed​

4: Early Summer

  • June & July
  • Disease/insect control
  • Spot weed control in beds as needed

5: Summer

  • July & August
  • Disease/insect control as needed
